Filipe Franco is a freelance illustrator and art instructor. He received a M.A. in Artistic Anatomy from the Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal (2013) and a B.A. in Graphic Design from the Instituto de Artes Visuais, Design e Marketing, Lisbon, Portugal (1989). He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Science Illustration from the University of California, Santa Cruz, USA (2008), supported by an educational grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in collaboration with the Luso-American Development Foundation. Additional education includes several courses in scientific illustration, Portugal (2005, 2006); botanical illustration, UK (2005); and forensic art, US (2008).
His classmates once described him as: professional-mysterious, scrupulous-metabolic, passionate, confident, meticulous, savory, uncompromising, unfaltering, understanding, Portuguese finesse, humorous, sardonic, energetic, precise and expressive.
